In late October/early November 2019, in temperatures of around -10 °C, the latest stage of the largest ever North Atlantic salmon egg planting operation was carried out on the upper reaches of the Selá river. 200,000 eggs were planted by the Six Rivers Project with the expert help and guidance of the MFRI, the Icelandic salmon research institute. We expect this number to increase to 1 million eggs per year by 2024.It is difficult to gauge the success rate of this particular programme but tagging and working with university researchers should in time confirm that this initiative will play its part in helping preserve the Atlantic salmon.
